Where Everyone Is Important!
Sierra Leone faces many challenges including, securing its democratic gains, economic prosperity, social inclusion, social justice, good governance and infrastructural and institutional development. There has therefore been a clarion call by patriotic and well-meaning Sierra Leoneans and friends of Sierra Leone to establish the Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) Movement for the sole purpose of drafting Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) to run for President of the Republic of Sierra Leone in 2017.
The KKY movement supports, advocates and campaigns for KKY because the vast majority of Sierra Leoneans believe that only a person with his experience, skills, knowledge, capacity and ability stands a chance of leading our Nation into a new era of Economic Transformation, Growth, Job Creation and Social Justice.
The movement will be engaging in fund raising, community engagement and awareness programs, campaigns and various developmental programs – all in the name of KKY and for the sole purpose of promoting and advocating his bid for the 2017/18 Presidential elections of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
For decades Sierra Leoneans at home and in the diaspora have been looking forward to a brighter socio-political and economic future. Several governments and different leaders have come with promises of hope and some with heightened expectations.
At its heart, a fairer conclusion will be best summarised as not much has been achieved in the various sectors or different areas of governance.
For the most part, the country has relatively remained stagnant.
The Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella Movement also known as KKYM is there upon, founded on the people’s desire for a good leader. We believe a good leader is one that does not only have a great idea, but one that is capable of assembling a team to bring that concept to life; a person with sound track record in both his personal and public life.
Our strategy plan is set purely on the need to develop our homeland, and in this process we are promoting a Sierra Leonean of the name Dr. Kandeh Yumkella who has exemplify his leadership skills far beyond domestic politics to as far as international level. After few years working in the United Nations, Dr Kandeh Yumkella became a household name at home and internationally. Being, the first Sierra Leonean to ever hold a high profile UN departmental head position, he was able to command respect at all levels mainly through his work and how well he delivers UN programs.
Previously known as the former Director General of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), it is not worth cataloguing the various ways Dr. Kandeh Yumkella has earned himself respect. However, his numerous accolades among his peers in the international scene and other African leaders is a demonstration of his capabilities. At home and abroad he is notably dubbed ‘Man Of The Soil’ as he keep a fostering watch on pro-poor agenda. Given that, his most recent role as the UN Special Representative on the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) program, further exemplify Dr. Kandeh Yumkella’s leadership credentials. Once more, seen as someone with cutting edge ideas, he has actively engaged on an assignment that could be best describe as the lifeline of Africa’s economic transformation- energy. Dr. Kandeh Yumkella continues to advance development programs as well as spearhead programs that are set to change poorer countries ‘dark’ outlook.
Currently, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella has taken the centre stage promoting Sustainable Energy for all alongside other cross-cutting issues affecting poorer countries e.g. Sierra Leone, his own home land. His tenacity and versatility in these areas has particularly placed him among the echelon of international politics and global diplomacy.
Dr. Kandeh Yumkella’s previous role at UNIDO, has showcased the various ways in which he champions ideas that can improve living conditions of people and promote global prosperity; and this work had in fact revealed his ability to match tailor made solutions in often different situations.
With well over a decade experience in development work, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella has worked side by side with a cross section of decision makers providing support and directions even across Africa, in ways that could improve trade capacity, poverty reduction and other international corporation- often bringing to his homeland the best of everything.
Dr. Kandeh Yumkella lives and breath success. He knows what is success and knows how to deliver it. Most important he knows how to prioritize and simplify complex issues which has become part of his forte. In recent years he has used his influence to facilitate development activities in Sierra Leone which includes the Hydropower at Bankasoka that will benefit the people in the Port Loko area, Hydropower project in Moyamba to benefit Njala University and surrounding villages, New Fishery training institute in Sierra Leone, piloted and built about 11 Growth Center around the nation with the biggest center in Bo to help transform and create a gainful trade environment for our destitute youths and everyone that want to receive vocational education.
Dr. Kandeh Yumkella is currently championing energy efficiency in Sierra Leone and even introduced solar power in his small village Kychom at the Kambia district which also include the building a Biomas Power Plant in his village Kychum that can generate electricity with discarded rice husk. The Biomass Power Plant can generate about 32 Kilowatts of renewable energy to supply about 250 homes.
His intervention on the education system for the children in Kychom is beginning to see real positive improvements for students taking the BECE exams because of the night classes that are being conducted under solar lighting. He is also embarking on building an ultra modern school in his hometown for children in its environs.
It is on these achievements along with his personal conduct and belief which he emphasises as; “discipline, humility and faith” that this group was formed. The KKYM group consists of vibrant young Sierra Leoneans who have strong belief in Dr. Kandeh Yumkella's style of leadership.
Having, demonstrated more than enough qualities; we are of the opinion that Sierra Leone at this crucial stage of her development has a brighter future under a dynamic and transformative leader like Dr. Kandeh Yumkella.
The primary role of our movement is to ensure a process which will run in the next couple years in accordance with Sierra Leone's democracy.
Our aim is to allow a new generation take up an active role in shaping the political life and through that work improve the quality of life of our people as hoped for.
Here at KKYM, our vision sees a future where Sierra Leone will meet the urgent challenges we face and create in the process a more secure economy and a just society for all our people to thrive. The KKYM will make use of our democratic systems to empower an individual we believe can transform our political landscape. This movement will play a positive role in shaping our own destiny and promote our next leader and successor of His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma.
